type='text'>Morpheus' resolutions in 2008

Hello, Everyone, who has make it this far. Welcome to 2008, pat yourself on the back. For you are one of the many, the cowardly, and occasionally attractive, who can say they lived 60 years after 1948.
The tradition of a new year resolution is one, I am conflicted on. Part of me likes the idea of reflecting and improving, but another art hates the idea of sharing this very private and personal moment. I'm very selective about sharing my information and no one person can say that they know everything about me.
So these resolutions are of me as a writer and founder of the zine:
1. To publish at least 6 issues in 2008
2. To get a reliable source of funding for the zine.
3. To create a Wanderer's guide to life flying castle

I know these are pretty simple goals, but organizing this over online is harder than i thought, but no fear.

Publishing blues

So I am writing to say the publishing of the first issue will be late jan / early feb. The past has shown us the transcendentalist the lost generation, the beats, the hippies; the punks are all examples of pass reactions to mainstream. We do not claim to be the next big thing, as we are not that arrogant, but we do follow in the footsteps of those other movements. We are the neo-beats, as our greatest influence is the 50’s cats, who journeyed all over the land. We are disillusioned youths, who can’t find their satisfaction, with consumerism. We are searching for something more than just physical materials. We are people on a spiritual quest for enlightenment.

This quest creates wanderlust inside of us. We want to go everywhere in order to reach a higher plane of existence, trying to find happiness. We all explore altered states of reality, so we can perceive more than the normal person. We reject the idea of working just to make money; our work is one that uses our minds and creativity. We would rather live poor, but be happy than do something we hate and be miserable. We are middle class surburbians, who enjoy high art and luxury, but live like lower class because we don’t make enough to support our tastes.

Our work is as diverse as our members. We are writers of nonfiction and fiction, poets, musicians, artists, philosophers and playwrights. We are the children of the postmodernists. All artists of the past influence us; no two neo-beats have the same inspirations. Yet, we are united by our ideology, which is that we value the concept over the product. We look deep into the works and find the core. Because it is this core of the work that we will find meaning, the outer shell is for the masses, which pick at all the details and miss the big picture. Our works often are just ways to express our ideas and philosophies in a non-direct form.

There is no leader of the movement or figurehead. We all have our own style and ideas; we just agree on major choices. This manifesto is a statement of the ideas that we all agree on, a basic guideline on how to be a neo-beat. We will define ourselves, instead of letting the media do it, as in the past. We want to be fully independent from mainstream as any dependence would destroy the movement over time.

What is the guide?

"The Wanderer's Guide to Life" is a production of the neo-beatnik movement in order to unite the members and in order for the works of the movement to be published. It is a currently free print magazine that is published monthly, and due to the current lack of funds, only released near Emerson College in Boston. We wish to increase the distribution of the magazine to a national, or possibly an international level. This blog is the magazine's constant connection to the world. A monthly format or even weekly or even daily would not allow for an up to date view of current events or allow for the most freedom of the writer.
The current writing staff (who will all be able to post on this blog):
Morpheus- He gathered the staff and named the movement. Not the leader of the movement, but just the one, who began the process of formation. His favorite genre to write would be fantasy or Sci-fi.
Winston Czar- A good friend of Morpheus, and the two engage in a regular philosophical debate. He prefers gonzo journalism.
Bellaphron- Another good friend of Morpheus. He reveals the problems of society in any style that fits.
K.- K and Morpheus met recently and soon banded together through the ideals of the movement and began a great friendship. K. writes and draws all of the illustrations.
